A nationally recognised learning provider, Higher Rhythm offers higher education for adults, further education for post-16 young people, and part-time and short courses for learners of all ages.
Working with local and global partners, Higher Rhythm supports learners to build sustainable careers in the music and media industries. Offering top of the range recording studios, a community radio station, artist development, events, and volunteering opportunities, students benefit from access to a unique regional hub.
Their higher education offer - a two-year HND in Sound Engineering - was launched in 2024. With a maximum of just 12 learners per year, the programme provides focused, industry-rooted experience, combining professional-standard facilities with hands-on training.
By integrating learning with real-world opportunities, students gain the skills, experience, and confidence to develop their professional practice. Reflecting the organisation’s wider mission to make creative careers accessible, Higher Rhythm is committed to widening opportunity beyond traditional urban hubs, supporting creative talent in towns and villages as well as major cultural centres.
Steve Mundin, Chief Executive Officer of Higher Rhythm, said:
"IHE membership is exactly what we need as a micro higher education institution. As we further develop our higher education programme, being a member of IHE will provide access to the tools needed to maintain a high-quality offer for our students. Knowing that we have the support of IHE only an email or phone call away, gives us reassurance that our programme has the backing it needs to thrive."
Alex Proudfoot, Chief Executive of IHE, commented:
"We are delighted to welcome a provider so deeply embedded in its local community and with a clear mission to widen access to higher education as well as to the music industry. Higher Rhythm’s regional presence and impact demonstrate how independent providers can transform opportunities for learners and industries at a local and national level. We look forward to supporting them in developing their higher education provision."
