Bird College Conservatoire of dance and musical theatre

Bird College develops the next generation of performers and creative artists through professional, industry‑aligned training in dance and musical theatre.

Founded in 1946 by Doreen Bird and based in Sidcup, South East London, Bird College has grown into an internationally respected provider of specialist education. Its mission emphasises outstanding and innovative training, supported by a learning environment that is inclusive, equitable and designed to nurture technical excellence, resilience and long‑term employability.

Bird College delivers a flagship BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre designed to build versatility across dance, singing and acting while developing artistic, academic and professional skills. Alongside the degree, the College offers short courses and additional qualifications, including the Diploma in Dance Education for those wishing to pursue accredited teaching pathways, ensuring multiple routes into professional practice.

Students benefit from a highly specialised, student‑centred training environment supported by extensive facilities, experienced faculty, and an in‑house agency that provides representation, audition preparation and industry‑focused career guidance. This integrated support structure contributes to the College’s strong reputation for producing adaptable, industry‑ready graduates.

The success of Bird College graduates reflects the breadth of opportunities available to those trained at the conservatoire, with alumni performing across musical theatre, dance companies, television, and commercial entertainment worldwide. Recent graduate profiles include credits in productions such as Hamilton, Les Misérables, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, Funny Girl, 42nd Street and An American in Paris.
