This session will provide an overview of the OfS initial condition of registration C5 on “treating students fairly”. This is part of a series of support provided by IHE to help members navigate Office for Students (OfS) requirements and process.
The OfS have proposed to introduce a new initial condition of registration C5 which will come into effect when registration reopens in August 2025. This will replace conditions C1 (guidance on consumer protection law) and C3 (Student Protection Plans).
The focus for the condition will be an assessment of whether providers treat students fairly, and it has been proposed by the OfS (confirmation of the requirements and guidance is expected in August) that providers will be required to submit for assessment the policies and processes it would use to manage it’s relationship with students. These would then be published externally and constitute the student protection plan.
At this session, our expert speaker will provide an overview of the new requirements, what these mean for providers, and how you can best ensure that your student facing policies and documents effectively demonstrate fairness to students. They will provide advice on the actions you should be taking to prepare your application, and how you can manage risk in this area.
This session is designed for all those preparing to apply for OfS registration, whatever stage of the journey you are at. It will also be useful for those already registered and seeking to further understand regulatory requirements for consumer protection and treating students fairly, to enhance their own practice in line with the direction the OfS is taking.
