Supporting workplace wellbeing: menopause policies in higher education

Menopause in the workplace remains under-discussed and under-supported. The anticipated introduction of a mandated Menopause Action Plan for large employers underscores the urgent need for all organisations to develop comprehensive frameworks that safeguard staff wellbeing and improve retention.

This session will share insights from interviews with policy implementers and senior leaders in higher education, drawn from an MSc research project led by a member of the IHE policy team, examining barriers and enablers to effective menopause support in HE.

We will explore the challenges faced by individual champions for change, highlight the benefits of a whole-community approach to supporting women through the menopause transition, and discuss together practical steps to shift perceptions and embed meaningful support for wellbeing at work.
