HESA consultations: Cost centres and FTE

HESA have launched the second and third consultations in their series of consultations this Spring, looking at how and what is collected for in-year data.

Cost centre consultation- This consultation is designed to gain feedback on the proposed changes to collecting cost centre information in the HESA student data model. As ModuleInstance dates are currently used to calculate Cost Centre FTE derivations, this also impacts the coverage of ModuleInstance date fields.

FTE consultation- This consultation is designed to gain feedback on the proposed approach to collecting FTE data for in-year data collections. This proposal specifically relates to in-year and so the change would happen at the same time as the move to in-year data collection, likely 2028/29.

Both of these consultations will close on Monday 16 April 2026.

HESA welcomes responses from all stakeholders with an interest in the collection, use and dissemination of information about student data in UK higher education, but they particularly welcome responses from operational contacts who submit data to the current student record.

Join us on Thursday 2 April at 13:00 to find out more about the proposals and take part in a discussion with other IHE members about their potential implications.
