CMA and Consumer Law Compliance with Pinsent Masons and EdAd (July 2026)

Following the success of 2025's Consumer and Student Protection Training for Higher Education Professionals, we will be running two further sessions in 2026 which will cover your consumer law responsibilities as a higher education provider, changes in consumer legislation and updates to Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) guidance. CMA guidance is useful for all education providers offering courses 18+ as it is based in consumer legislation which applies equally to education services, regulated or unregulated.

Providers registered with OfS are required to ensure they continue to be compliant with the CMA higher education guidance and keep up to date with changes. This event is designed to provide staff with the essential training needed to support their provider to meet this condition. Providers who are not registered with OfS are still required to comply with consumer legislation and are strongly encouraged to attend. In August 2025, the Office for Students shared the outcomes of their consultation on proposals for a new initial condition focused on fairness for students and set out new requirements under condition C5, with changes to the OfS prohibited behaviours list and updated guidance.

Whilst these changes immediately impact providers registering for the first time, we are expecting these changes to be rolled out across all registered providers. The workshop will reflect on the new guidance and provide a practical approach to implementing required changes in your institution.

This session will be led by Andrew Church, Associate at our commercial partner Pinsent Masons, and Rachel Wallace, Education Consultant at EdAd. This workshop is for all staff who work in higher education providers and have responsibility for the management of areas under CMA guidance including marketing and recruitment, admissions, academic quality (course design and delivery) and complaints and appeals. A certificate of attendance will be provided to those who attend.
