Higher education faces an uncomfortable truth. Despite investing heavily in quality programmes, employers consistently report that graduates can't apply what they know in the workplace. The technical knowledge is there, but something essential is missing. AI has made this worse. When excellent content is everywhere and instantly accessible, higher education providers can no longer compete on content alone. So what's your unique value now?
The answer is helping students use their knowledge in messy, real situations. This means moving from teaching facts to developing judgement - from information to application.
Scenario-based learning does exactly this. Instead of studying content and hoping it transfers, students tackle realistic workplace challenges from day one. They develop judgement through practice, not memorisation.
The power lies in fiction. Fictional scenarios create safe spaces where students can make mistakes, experiment with approaches, and learn from consequences without real-world damage. It's like a flight simulator for professional skills - authentic enough to matter, safe enough to fail.
In this creative and interactive session, Tony Reeves and Phil Gomm from Ding Learning will be exploring the potential of scenario-based learning and how this approach can differentiate your programmes while delivering employable graduates.
