Uniquely placed to deliver training that reflects the changing needs of the populations we serve
For over 100 years, the Tavistock and Portman clinics embodied a distinctive way of thinking about and understanding mental distress, mental health and emotional wellbeing. Today, as part of North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT), we continue to provide mental health services, education and research.
Our programmes of study support practitioners from a wide range of sectors, including mental health, healthcare, education, social care, consultancy and criminal justice. Many of our pathways are based on an escalator model – from introductory certificates and postgraduate diplomas through to more specialist master’s degrees and doctorate level programmes – supporting the development of expertise across multiple specialisms.
All our courses are developed and delivered by our faculty of expert clinician-tutors within our working clinic, ensuring that training is highly relevant, up-to-date and applicable. We are uniquely placed to deliver training based on real-time, clinical insights and research – reflecting the complex and changing needs of the populations we serve – in both clinical and non-clinical roles.
Whether you’re studying in London at the Tavistock Centre, across the UK and Europe with our like-minded educational partners, or remotely via an online or blended course, you can be sure that the education you receive will be highly relevant, stimulating and transformative.

We have been partnering with a number of Chinese organisations over the past few years to deliver a range of educational courses, either fully online or blended. This has evolved to a wider commission for us to design and deliver a longer programme of two years duration with the possibility of exploring delivery of validated programmes in the future. We have also offered a Visitors Programme to Chinese and Japanese organisations for a number of years.
Future collaboration with overseas partners
We are happy to discuss areas of potential collaboration with prospective overseas partners to see what we may offer by way of training in the fields of mental health, social care, psychology and psychotherapy and leadership and management.
We can offer many of our courses to overseas partners although some are subject to professional body requirements.
Collaborative areas include observerships, tailored programmes and bespoke online programme delivery.
