The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) has been teaching the world to dance for over 100 years. We continue to adapt to include new genres, offering flexible programmes across the world. As a specialist dance education provider, we offer a range of initial and continuing teacher education degrees, diplomas and certificates. We set global standards for examinations in classical ballet, teacher training and continuing professional development for dance. We have a presence in 85 countries, with 28 offices and around 12,000 members worldwide.
RAD has considerable experience in working collaboratively with providers in countries such as Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Through its Faculty of Education, RAD has delivered a number of conferences focusing on dance and dance teaching, all of which have attracted significant international interest and attendance. As an international organisation, RAD is committed to promoting knowledge exchange that transforms social and cultural understanding through the medium of dance and dance teaching.
Our programmes have been specifically designed to meet current and future aspirations of students wishing to pursue or extend their careers in dance teaching and can be studied full-time or part-time, onsite at RAD in London or by distance learning.

The Certificate in Dance Teaching (Ballet) is a two-year part-time programme delivered through a combination of online learning, studio-based teaching, and independent research. Through utilising a bespoke digital-learning platform, students are able to study in their home countries in the following languages: English, Italian, German, Greek, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese Korean and Mandarin.
Delivered concurrently in London and Sydney, the Professional Dancers’ Graduate Teaching Diploma has been specifically designed for professional dancers wishing to gain a dance teaching qualification while still performing or once retired.
Future collaboration with overseas partners
Through its Faculty of Education, RAD is keen to build on its track-record of TNE engagement by working collaboratively with dance providers, organisations, institutions and government agencies in the following areas:
- the promotion of dance as being transformative and accessible to all through developing international conferences, workshops and continuing professional development opportunities
- mutual recognition of dance teaching qualifications for access to Registered Teacher membership status with the Royal Academy of Dance and recognition by government authorities
- student exchange opportunities and collaborations (in-person and virtual)
- the development of digital resources for the learning and teaching of dance as part of initial and on-going education.
