This session will provide an introduction to governing documents for higher education providers. It forms part of a series of support provided by IHE to help members navigate the Office for Students (OfS) registration requirements and process.
As part of its recent consultation on changes to registration, the OfS has proposed a new initial condition of registration (Condition E7) focused on effective governance. This includes a clear expectation that providers demonstrate how ultimate oversight and decision-making authority is exercised through appropriate governing documents. With registration due to reopen in August 2025, now is the time for members to review and strengthen their governance frameworks.
This session will explore what governing documents are, what the OfS expects to see, and how providers can ensure their governance structures and documentation reflect the principles and good practice highlighted by the OfS. It will also provide practical advice that considers the context of different types of providers on how to avoid common pitfalls when submitting governance models for registration.
Alongside insights from our two expert speakers, you will hear from IHE Members who will share their experience of developing and refining their governing documents, including lessons learned and practical tips for others.
