As well as fulfilling the standard duties of a Director, ensuring IHE complies with relevant regulations and legislation as we deliver our strategy, Peter joins the Board with a specific remit: to bring his experience as a student to Board discussions, helping us make decisions that are in the best interests of students. As Chair of the reconstituted Student Advisory Board (SAB), Peter will represent IHE on student voice matters at sector events and in meetings with government representatives.
Peter brings a wealth of experience as a student having completed undergraduate and postgraduate study at higher education providers based in the UK and overseas. He is currently enrolled at the College of Legal Practice and has previously studied at Vilnius University in Lithuania and at the University of Oslo in Norway, as part of an Erasmus exchange. His work experience includes roles in the former Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and at the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
We look forward to working with Peter over the next two years. His experiences to date will be invaluable in helping us to deliver our strategy and build a compelling and strong national student voice for independent providers of higher education.
Commenting on his appointment, Peter said:
“We hear a lot about ‘levelling up’ from our politicians, but if we are serious about truly allowing our young people to ‘level up’ then a flourishing higher education sector is an important part of that process.
Students come from different backgrounds and have differing needs. Higher education has the ability to level the playing field and allow young people, no matter what their background, to achieve amazing things.
Independent providers play a vital role in encouraging and enabling innovation and accessibility. At a time of political assault on higher education, the need to defend and protect our unique and innovative independent sector is essential for us all.
IHE is key to showcasing the value the independent sector offers not only to students, but to the UK more broadly. Being able to showcase this value as a member of the IHE Board is a real privilege.”
